The Pahrump Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team played a tough game against the Boulder City Eagles on Monday, January 13, at home. While the final score showed a 41-64 loss, the Trojans displayed strong effort and teamwork throughout the match.

The game started with Boulder City taking an early lead, but Alejandro Lozano answered quickly with a breakaway layup, drawing a foul and sinking the free throw to put Pahrump on the board. Antwahn Jackson contributed a key rebound and put-back, keeping the Trojans close. Jack Toth hit a late three-pointer in the first quarter, narrowing the deficit to 8-11. Boulder’s quick response and aggressive full-court press created challenges for Pahrump, ending the quarter at 10-17. Aydon Veloz found himself in early foul trouble, limiting his time on the court.

In the second quarter, Lucas Gavenda played a key role inside the paint, scoring multiple baskets and helping the team keep pace with Boulder’s offense. Lozano closed the half with a well-timed three-pointer just before the buzzer, bringing the Trojans’ total to 19 points heading into halftime, while Boulder City had 35.

The second half opened with Boulder City extending their lead with sharp outside shooting. Pahrump responded with solid contributions from Toth, who scored from both mid-range and inside the arc. Gavenda added more points from the post, while Veloz found opportunities to assist his teammates and grab rebounds. Cartier Jenkins and Jamiah Mendenhall added late points, with Jenkins scoring inside and Mendenhall sinking two free throws after being fouled.

Jackson’s mid-range jumper and Sheppard’s free throws highlighted Pahrump’s consistent effort to stay competitive in the game. The team continued to move the ball well, creating opportunities despite Boulder’s strong defensive plays. Defensively, the Trojans worked hard to disrupt Boulder’s offense.

Although the Eagles maintained their lead throughout the game, Pahrump showed moments of strong coordination and execution. Lozano, Jackson, Toth, Veloz, and Figueroa Renteria made key plays as starters, while Gavenda, Jenkins, Sheppard, and others contributed valuable minutes.

The Trojans will look to build on this game as they prepare for the next matchup, focusing on refining their strategy and execution for future contests.
