The Pahrump Valley High School varsity girls’ basketball team took on the Meadows Mustangs on Thursday, January 16, in a spirited home game that featured standout plays and teamwork from the Trojans. Although the Mustangs secured a 57-33 victory, the game highlighted the Trojans’ effort across the court.

The Meadows opened the game with a fast-paced offense and strong defensive presence, scoring quickly with a layup and extending their lead with a series of well-executed plays. The Mustangs’ pressure made it difficult for the Trojans to settle into their offense, keeping them scoreless through the first quarter, which ended 14-0 in favor of the visitors.

In the second quarter, the Trojans began to find opportunities. Riley Saldana broke through for the Trojans’ first points with a drive to the basket, followed by another inside shot off a precise assist from Natalie Soto. Savannah Thompson showcased her persistence on the offensive boards, putting up a shot and scoring on the second attempt. Ella Odegard also delivered a key inbound pass to Saldana resulting in two more points and adding to the Trojans’ momentum. The Mustangs continued to score consistently, but the Trojans headed into halftime with nine points on the board to Meadows’ 30.

The third quarter saw more contributions from the Trojans, with Ella Odegard intercepting a pass and driving to the basket for two points. Ryleigh Denton added to the team’s total with a determined basket that also drew a foul. Sydney Crotty nailed a three-pointer late in the game, energizing her teammates and the home crowd. Autumn Colon’s quick steal and fast-break layup were another highlight, showcasing the Trojans’ ability to capitalize on defensive plays.

The Trojans’ teamwork and communication were evident throughout the match. Saldana led the team offensively, drawing fouls and sinking key free throws. Cindal Monahan demonstrated sharp passing skills in the final minutes, setting up Julie Briggs for a well-executed shot that closed out the game.

While the Mustangs maintained their lead and controlled much of the game, the Trojans made the most of their opportunities and displayed strong connections on the court. The players’ ability to support each other and execute key plays reflected their commitment to growth as a team.

As the season continues, Pahrump Valley will build on these moments of success, working toward even stronger performances in upcoming games.
