The Pahrump Valley High School Trojans’ softball team delivered an outstanding performance on April 17th, dominating the Sunrise Mountain Miners 15-0 in a three-inning game played on the Miners’ home field.

The Trojans came out strong in the top of the first, setting the tone early. Ryleigh Denton led off with a single, then quickly stole both second and third base. Danika Cox-Hosino brought her home with a single, and after Cox-Hosino stole second, she scored on a base hit by Evalenne Armendariz. Despite a pair of fly outs, the Trojans weren’t done yet. Mariah Gray drew a walk and Kayla Glenn followed with a base hit to drive in Armendariz. A fly out to the pitcher ended the inning, but not before Pahrump posted three runs.

Glenn took the circle for the Trojans and worked efficiently with her defense. After hitting the Miners’ lead-off batter, she recovered quickly. The next batter flew out to shortstop Armendariz, who alertly fired to first for a double play. A strikeout looking closed the bottom of the first, keeping the Miners off the scoreboard.

In the top of the second, Ava Chiancone flew out to second, but Denton once again sparked the Trojans with another base hit. After stealing second and advancing to third on a passed ball, she scored on a double from Cox-Hosino. Armendariz followed with a base hit to score Cox-Hosino and stole second. Hits by Saldaña, Rodriguez, and Gray kept the momentum going, with runs scoring on nearly every swing. Glenn grounded out to the pitcher but brought home Rodriguez in the process. When the dust settled, five more runs had crossed the plate, giving Pahrump a commanding 8-0 lead.

The defense stayed locked in during the bottom of the second. Mariah Gray fielded a grounder at third and threw to Saldaña at first for the first out. The next batter grounded out to Glenn, who made the easy toss to first, and a strikeout looking wrapped up the inning swiftly.

The top of the third saw the Trojans unleash an offensive explosion, batting through the lineup and tacking on seven additional runs. Key moments included a triple from Denton, a double by Cox-Hosino, a triple from Armendariz, a double by Saldaña, and base hits from Rodriguez, Gray, and Chiancone. The Trojans’ bats were relentless and precise, adding to their already commanding lead.

In what would be the final half-inning, the Trojans closed the door on any comeback hopes. Despite allowing one Miner to reach base, they retired the side with just four batters faced, sealing the shutout win via the mercy rule after three innings.

The Trojans ended the game with an impressive stat line: 16 hits and 14 RBIs, showcasing the team’s depth and offensive power. Their flawless defense, efficient pitching, and aggressive baserunning combined for a textbook win on the road.
