The Pahrump Valley High School Trojans baseball team delivered a commanding performance on April 3, shutting out the Sunrise Mountain Miners 13-0 on their home field. With solid pitching, aggressive base running, and a defense that refused to crack under pressure, the Trojans made a clear statement as they continue their season.

The game started strong with Tony Whitney drawing a walk as the lead-off batter. He quickly advanced to third on steals and a catcher error, setting the tone for the Trojans’ offensive momentum. Andrew Zurn brought him home with a line drive single to center field, and moments later, Zurn scored on a wild pitch. By the end of the top of the first inning, the Trojans were up 2-0.

The Miners threatened early, managing to get two runners on base with walks in the bottom of the first, but the Trojans held firm with a final ground out to first baseman Andrew Zurn, keeping the Miners scoreless.

In the second inning, the Trojans continued to capitalize on errors, with Dominic Chiancone reaching second and later scoring on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Rily. Tony Whitney reached base again, but the Miners were able to limit the damage, holding the Trojans to one run in the inning.

The third inning saw Pahrump Valley’s offense come alive in full force. Aidyn Cratty reached base on an error and scored on a powerful double by Kayne Horibe, who also scored on a miscue by the catcher. With the bases loaded following a series of hits and walks, Zurn delivered a clutch double, clearing the bases and pushing the Trojans’ lead to 10-0. The Miners loaded the bases in the bottom of the third but couldn’t convert, thanks to strong defensive plays by the Trojans.

Sunrise Mountain held the Trojans scoreless in the fourth with three quick fly-outs, but the Pahrump defense remained unshakable, allowing three singles but no runs in the bottom half.

In the fifth inning, the Trojans sealed the deal with three more runs. Tony Whitney was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Zurn. Ben Cimperman also crossed the plate, followed by Zurn scoring on a throw after Cody Fried’s single to left field.

The Miners went three up, three down in the bottom of the fifth, capped by a double play that closed the game with authority. The Trojans walked away with a decisive 13-0 win, showcasing not just their bats but their complete command of the field.
