Trojans Celebrate Final Home Game with 15-0 and Perfect Game by Armendariz

The Pahrump Valley High School Trojans softball team delivered a commanding 15-0 victory over the Canyon Springs Pioneers on April 28, wrapping up their regular season home schedule in style during their annual Pink Game. Held in honor of breast cancer awareness, the event brought together players, families, and fans for a spirited afternoon of softball and celebration.

The game was especially memorable as Evalenne Armendariz pitched a perfect game, retiring every batter she faced without allowing a single base runner. Over four innings, she struck out nine Pioneers and was backed by solid defensive plays from her teammates, ensuring that not a single batter reached first base.

Armendariz set the tone early, striking out the first two batters in the top of the first before catching a line drive to end the inning. In the bottom half, the Trojans began to capitalize. Mariah Gray reached base on a hit, and although Danika Cox-Hosino was thrown out at first, it advanced Gray into scoring position. Evalenne was hit by a pitch, and Sunday Colon followed with a hard grounder to left field, driving in the first run of the game. Riley Saldaña added a base hit to load the bases. A missed pitch allowed another run to score, and although Madison Rodriguez struck out, the rally continued. Sadie Freeman reached on a hit and a wild defensive play at first base, sending her all the way to third while the Pioneers scrambled. By the time Ava Chiancone’s at-bat ended with a strikeout, the Trojans held a 4-0 lead.

The top of the second saw continued excellence from the Trojans defense. Madison fielded a grounder cleanly and tossed it to Kayla Glenn at first for the out. Evalenne followed with a strikeout and then a fielded grounder by Kayla, who calmly took a few steps to first to make the third out herself.

In the bottom of the second, Ryleigh Denton made contact, but the ball was fielded for the first out. Mariah stepped in next with a base hit, followed by Evalenne, who crushed a home run to extend the Trojans’ lead to 6-0. Sunday reached second base on a throwing error and a tight play at the bag, sliding in safe. Kayla Glenn connected but was thrown out at first to end the inning with Pahrump leading 6-0.

Evalenne stayed perfect in the top of the third, striking out all three Pioneer batters in order. The Trojans resumed their offensive surge in the bottom of the inning. Madison struck out but reached first on a dropped third strike and advanced to second on an overthrow. Kayleen Carranza grounded out, allowing Madison to move to third. Ava reached base when the fielder pulled her foot at first, bringing in another run. Denton followed with a low liner to center, putting runners on first and second. Mariah then hit to short, but the fielder hesitated as the baserunner crossed in front of her, failing to make a play. Danika crushed a shot to the center field wall, scoring two more runs with a double to put the Trojans up 9-0.

Evalenne lifted a high fly to shallow right, which was misplayed, scoring Mariah and pushing the lead to double digits. Sunday Colon stepped in with Danika stealing third. Sunday hit to short, and the fielder attempted to stop the runner at home rather than take the force out at first, unsuccessfully. Kayla Glenn followed with a powerful double to continue the rally. Madison then launched a fly to center, allowing the runner on third to tag and score, making it 13-0. Kayleen struck out to end the inning, but not before Kayla Glenn had stolen both third and home, capping the inning with a 14-0 score.

In the top of the fourth, Evalenne remained untouchable. She recorded her seventh strikeout of the game before Ava fielded a grounder cleanly at second for the second out. A soft pop fly to shortstop was caught by Madison to complete the defensive shutout and confirm Evalenne’s perfect game.

In the bottom of the fourth, Dakota Glenn led off with a strikeout, but the game came to a dramatic conclusion with Ryleigh Denton at the plate. Just as the opposing coach repositioned his right fielder, Denton sent a laser to right field—right to where the fielder had originally been standing. The ball rolled to the fence, and Denton circled the bases for an inside-the-park home run. With the score at 15-0, the game was called due to the mercy rule, sealing a decisive victory for the Trojans.

The Trojans, will have just one more regular season game before heading into the regional playoffs with strong momentum and a powerful reminder of what they are capable of.
