    PVHS Track and Field Teams Battle the Wind for Strong Results at Green Valley Meet

    The Pahrump Valley High School Track and Field team braved strong gusty winds on April 17 to deliver a powerful performance at the Green Valley High School weekday meet. Athletes from both the boys’ and girls’ teams not only showed depth and determination but also came away with several top finishes and personal records in a competitive field.

    On the boys’ side, Randy Murray and Keegan Freeman sprinted to strong finishes in the 100m dash, placing third (12.01) and fifth (12.05), respectively, while teammates Tramaine Burras, Justin Byers, and a large group of Trojans followed closely behind, showing the team’s impressive participation and speed in the event.

    In the 200m dash, Aydon Veloz led the PVHS sprinters with a fifth-place finish in 24.24, followed closely by Freeman (24.40) and Burras (24.81). In the 400m dash, Ben De Santiago took first with an impressive 52.54, with Tristan Schumacher, Eric Figueroa Renteria, and Lucas Gavenda finishing just behind—Gavenda setting a personal best of 56.26.

    Distance runners had a strong showing as well, with Antonio Veloz taking third in the 1600m (5:03.72) and Joaquin Flores close behind in fourth (5:17.56). Flores came back to dominate the 3200m, winning with a personal record of 11:08.66. Teammates Josh Gent and Logan Tilley followed him in second and third, respectively. In the 800m, Antonio Veloz and De Santiago placed fourth and fifth.

    The hurdles saw a clean sweep, with Randy Murray winning the 110m hurdles and Mariano Ayala placing second. And Jayden Crisler finishing first in the 300m hurdles, with Ulisses Alvarez placing second.

    In the field events, the Trojans were particularly strong. Hunter Mellinger placed third in the shot put (35′ 11.5″) while Sonny Skinner followed in fourth (34′ 0.5″). In discus, Brenden Thorn threw 121′ 9″ to take second, with Skinner again taking third. Mellinger set a PR in the event with a throw of 102′ 8″.

    Tristan Schumacher set a personal best in high jump at 5′ 8″ for second place, and Aydon Veloz took third at 5′ 6″. Jayden Crisler had a standout day in the jumps, finishing second in long jump (19′ 1.5″, PR) and winning the triple jump with an impressive 42′ 0.5″. He also set a personal record in pole vault at 9′.

    The girls’ team also had a standout day, led by Rosie Miller who sprinted to a first-place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 13.53. In the 200m, Cindal Monahan led the way with a fifth-place finish and a personal best of 30.01, with Aliana Zuniga and Savannah Thompson also setting PRs.

    In the 400m, Jules Ondrisko took first (1:04.14), with Payton Weaver close behind in second (1:04.36). Valery Romero placed fourth in the event and added a third-place finish in the 800m (2:52.07), just ahead of Rosie Miller. Kaylan Robinson led the distance team with a third-place finish and PR in the 1600m (6:15.14) and won the 3200m with another PR of 13:48.38. Alexis Clouser also had a strong day, taking third in the 3200m and fifth in the 1600m.

    Diona Nixon claimed first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.97, followed by Sasha Strain in second. Several teammates also competed in the event, showing the depth of the hurdling squad.

    In field events, Tiler Ledford stood out with a second-place finish in both the shot put (24′ 8″) and discus (65′ 9″). Jemima Chavez was close behind in third in the discus (64′ 1″). In high jump, Savannah Thompson took second (4′ 6″) and Rosie Miller cleared 4′ 4″. Amelia Graziano earned a personal record in pole vault, clearing 6′.

    Thompson also placed second in both the long jump (14′ 3.5″) and won the triple jump with a season best of 30′ 11.75″. Melanie Carson and Sarah Brown jumped well in the long jump, with Brown setting a personal best.

    Despite battling powerful wind throughout the evening, the Trojans turned in an outstanding performance, showcasing talent across the board and highlighting the progress the team has made this season.
