The PVHS Trojans football team took on Somerset Academy Losee on Friday, September 6, in a highly competitive matchup against one of the top 4A teams in the state. Losee, a 4A state semifinalist last season, showed their strength, but the Trojans fought hard, with the game ultimately coming down to just a few key plays.

Kayne Horibe was named the Player of the Game for the Trojans, showcasing his versatility and leadership on the field. Horibe racked up 314 all-purpose yards, including 200 yards passing and 114 yards rushing. He threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another, giving the team a much-needed offensive boost.

Ben DeSantiago made an immediate impact, catching a touchdown pass on the Trojans’ first offensive play from scrimmage, setting the tone early in the game. Austin Alvarez also made an impact on both sides of the ball, contributing a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown. On the defensive side, Iyan Bosket had a standout performance, helping to anchor the defense against a tough opponent.

Head Coach Thomas Walker praised the team’s effort, saying, “The team played really well and were tough in doing so. The difference in the game was about five plays. A couple breakdowns in defense and some untimely penalties in the red zone. As we head into league play, we know what we need to work on to win games like that.”

Offensive Coach Toby Henry echoed Walker’s sentiments, noting the challenge that Losee posed. “I think our guys played against a very tough Losee team, one of the best teams in a class above us, and our guys stepped up to the plate. Offensively, they showed they can score on any team. This week we will build off of what we had success on.”

The Trojans now prepare for their next opponent, SLAM Academy, a team that has been the back-to-back state runner-up in 3A. Defensive Coach Mike Colucci emphasized the challenges ahead, saying, “Slam’s offense presents many challenges for any defense. They are big, talented, and experienced on offense. It’s going to come down to execution, pursuit, and sound tackling. The boys and coaching staff are excited for the challenge!”

With a strong showing against a formidable Losee team, the Trojans are focused and ready to defend their home turf in what promises to be a thrilling matchup against SLAM Academy this week.
