The Pahrump Valley High School JV girls’ basketball team put up a strong fight against the SLAM Bulls on Friday, January 17, ultimately falling just short in a closely contested game, 30-36. Despite the loss, Head Coach Darla Sheppard praised her team’s determination and effort.

“My JV girls are seriously working their butts off and kicking butt,” Coach Sheppard said. “I know we have lost our last two games, but they are working so hard and not giving up! They are fun to coach!”

The Lady Trojans started the game strong, leading 10-8 at the end of the first quarter. Key contributions came from Ella Odegard, who scored a two-point field goal, and Sydney Crotty, who dominated with four two-point baskets.

In the second quarter, the Bulls gained momentum, outscoring the Trojans 9-6 and taking a narrow 17-16 lead into halftime. The Trojans’ points came from Cindal Monahan’s two-point field goal and Sydney Crotty, who added another two-point basket and went two-for-two at the free-throw line.

The third quarter saw both teams battling hard on defense, with the Bulls edging the Trojans 7-5. Emily Zaragoza led the scoring for the Trojans with three points, including a two-point field goal and one of two free throws. Ella Odegard added two more points, making two of five attempts from the line.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Trojans fought valiantly to close the gap, but the Bulls’ 12-point surge outpaced Pahrump’s nine. Addi Nelsen contributed two two-point field goals, Ella Odegard added two more of her own, and Autumn Colon chipped in with one of two free-throw attempts.

While the Lady Trojans couldn’t secure the win, their resilience and effort did not go unnoticed. Coach Sheppard expressed pride in her team, emphasizing their relentless work ethic and positive attitude.

The JV girls will look to build on this performance as they continue their season, showcasing the same heart and determination that make them a joy to coach and a force to watch.
